A special thank you goes to the Mayor of Laredo, Dr. Victor Trevino, and his office and staff for supporting the shop local movement and helping us kick off the festivities with a press conference and official proclamation on November 21st, which was hosted at Shop 195 at The Shoppes at Winfield. Their enthusiasm and partnership are key to spreading the message of how essential small businesses are to our community.

How did Small Business Saturday start?

According to the US Chamber, in 2010, American Express launched Small Business Saturday to help drive more holiday shopping to small businesses. Local officials across the nation began to notice and promote the day. In 2011, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution in support of Small Business Saturday and by 2012 officials in all 50 states began to participate – and they have every year since.
